Corrosion of Chromia-Forming and Alumina-Forming Ferritic Stainless Steels under Dual Atmosphere Exposure Conditions

نویسندگان

چکیده

The surface morphology and chemistry of oxide scales formed on select chromia-forming alumina-forming ferritic steels have been studied after exposure to a dual atmosphere hydrogen air. Localized Fe-rich nodules with whiskers/platelets form at the onset corrosion. initiation growth localized breakdown passivation are attributed presence hydrogen, inclusion iron in passivating scale, subsequent iron-rich due establishment redox (H 2 -H O) modification defect chemistry.

Development of Alumina-Forming Austenitic Stainless Steels

This paper presents the results of the continued development of creep-resistant, alumina-forming austenitic (AFA) stainless steel alloys, which exhibit a unique combination of excellent oxidation resistance via protective alumina (Al2O3) scale formation and high-temperature creep strength through the formation of stable nano-scale MC carbides and intermetallic precipitates. Efforts in fiscal ye...

Thermal Fatigue Behavior of 400 Series Ferritic Stainless Steels

In this study, thermal fatigue properties of 400 series ferritic stainless steels have been evaluated in the temperature ranges of 200-800C and 200-900C. Systematic methods for control of temperatures within the predetermined range and measurement of load applied to specimens as a function of temperature during thermal cycles have been established. Thermal fatigue tests were conducted under ful...

Influence of Silicon, Carbon and Phosphorus on Intergranular Corrosion of High Purity Austenitic Stainless Steels Under Transpassive Conditions

Precipitate-free Fe-Cr-Ni f.c.c. alloys exhibit strong intergranular corrosion in acid solutions at electrochemical potentials from the transpassivity range. Segregation of impurity atoms to grain boundaries is generally considered to be responsible for this specific kind of localized damage. A study of the influence of silicon, phosphon~s and carbon on the intergranular transpassive corrosion ...
